Particular
assignment in the Norms’ Harmonization program with rules from European states
is a replacement of classical asbestos-sealing rings with a new generation
asbestos-sealing rings, which is guaranteed higher sealing attributes. It acts
as sealing on the aramid glassy fibers base, graphite and expanded graphite
base and on the Teflon base. It is an important problem implicating the purity
of air. Statistic indication published in the foreign literature indicates that
sealing on flange partake on global emission more than 25%, and on shafts of
rotary machines 38%, and valve padding 33%. A publication is directed on

73) STUDY ABOUT TOOLS SUPPORTING WASTE
MINIMALIZATION (PAGE 32)
This
study was worked out in the framework of CEMC project no. 2.4/1994, according
to modified MPO CR. It is based upon investigation in selected companies and
upon knowledge from abroad and our present legislative laws and expected
development. Part of the project is a workshop about “Ways to prevent waste
creation in small and medium companies”. It was a sequence by an American firm
ICF Kaiser International and Finances E.T.P. – USAID. This reference manual (97
pages) was created separately and is possible to obtain this publication from members
organization CEMC AUDIT VT s.r.o., Usti nad Labem. In the first section of the
study, tools support directly to prevent and minimalize waste creation
(legislation tools, economical tools…). In the second section of study is the
described situation in our industry, as it is resulted from investigation and
situation of the foreign industry, further from the point of the living
environment and the company management, as well as prevention of waste creation
from the point of legislation and tools recommended to governments from OECD
council.

Standard BS 7750:1994, which was a first norm dealing with building and judging
Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and at the same time only technical norm
in this industry. BS 7750 introduces list of elements, which has to this system
be engaged in. In publication it is given an English text concurrently with a
Czech translation. A reader here can find useful contacts onto reputable firm
in applied area of interest.

It
is a professional system, which provides a service for a search of an asbestous
substitutes. They are using health hazardous padding used in a process industry
and in the energy industry, and their sealing parameters don’t match
requirements for safe operations in this new generation industry. Program is a
contribution to normal harmonization with norms of the European Union. This
appropriately fills in a space of an information vacuum, which exists in this
area. Assessment of padding is provided in dialogue form, on the basis of the
operational examinations, which are operating pressure, temperature, state of
sealed medium, corrosivity and geometrical interconnections. Into base data
knowledge are included experiences of prominent world padding manufacturers.

ENVIRONMENT
The
British Know-How Fund financed translation and release of this manual. It is
well-arranged manual with whose help a company management oneself may execute
whole ecological company evaluation. This goal is derived from the original
name of the publication “Your Business and the environment – A Do It Yourself
Review For Companies”. Czech translation of this key manual is not completely
identical with English original, because Ing. Ivan Zika not only text
translated but also wherever possible adapted for our conditions.
